Dr. Benjamin Schwartz joined Banner Health as President of Academic Delivery in 2025. In his role, he leads and sets the strategic direction of Banner's academic medicine division including overseeing three hospitals, academic care delivery and medical group operations. As a champion of patient experience and clinical excellence, his work encompasses the advancement of quality measures and patient outcomes through the application of innovation, big data and AI. A strong proponent of workplace culture and a One Team approach, Dr. Schwartz fosters collaboration through encouraging diverse perspectives, building high-performing teams and recruiting exceptional leaders.
Dr. Schwartz previously served as President of Corewell Health East (formerly Beaumont Health), where he led strategic and corporate decision-making across a healthcare system comprising eight hospitals, 155 outpatient sites, nearly 5,000 affiliated physicians, 1,800 advanced practice providers, 9,000 nurses, and 2,000 volunteers in Southeast Michigan. A native New Yorker, Dr. Schwartz previously held leadership roles at Northwell Health in New York, where he served as Senior Vice President and Physician Executive for the Eastern Region.
Over his 29-year career, Dr. Schwartz has expanded his influence as a practicing physician, administrator, and leader. He is deeply committed to the mission of academic medicine, serving as a Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. Dr. Schwartz earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College, followed by his medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. To deepen his expertise in healthcare leadership and management, he completed a Master in Healthcare Management at Harvard University.
