Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix (BUMCP) is a large, tertiary, teaching hospital which serves as the flagship hospital within Banner Health and is associated with the University of Arizona. The institution serves as a major referral center for the Phoenix metropolitan area as well as the southwest. The hospital supports numerous medical / surgical residency and fellowship programs. The institution is a Level I Trauma Center certified by the American College of Surgeons. Also, BUMCP is recognized as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission and has been designated as achieving Magnet status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Several specialty medical services within BUMCP have also been consistently named to the U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Hospitals.
The pharmacy department at BUMCP has implemented several novel clinical programs including pain management, abdominal (liver/kidney) and heart transplant, stress ulcer prophylaxis, anticoagulation and ICU sedation. The department was the recipient of the prestigious ASHP Best Practices Award for developing a novel clinical program with pharmacist prescriptive authority in the management of acid suppression therapy. The Department of Pharmacy has been featured as an ASHP practice spotlight for our advanced practice initiatives. Clinical preceptors are actively involved in teaching, process improvement initiatives, clinical research and publication.
