Hydrotherapy for babies

Banner Thunderbird Medical Center’s NICU is now offering a gentle and soothing therapy just for our smallest patients - hydrotherapy for babies.

Hydrotherapy is especially helpful for babies with neurological concerns, including preemies, micro preemies and those who need extra feeding support. In each session, your baby is gently placed in a warm, open basin of water, guided by our skilled motor therapists, with parents close by for comfort and connection. Babies enjoy two sessions per week.

To take part, infants simply need to meet a couple of requirements: no IV access, and a fully healed umbilical cord.

This relaxing, water-based therapy supports development in many ways - from improving feeding and movement to encouraging sensory integration and boosting mood. It also helps babies feel calm and comfortable as they learn to move. In some cases, it can even help speed up development, potentially leading to shorter NICU stays.
