Asthma Education and Support

Asthma doesn’t just affect your lungs - it can also affect your lifestyle, emotional well-being and family routines. At Banner Health, we’re here to help you live well with asthma, not just treat it. Alongside medical care, we offer education, tools and support that help you feel more confident in managing your condition.

Get help with your inhaler and medication

Using your asthma medications correctly is essential for managing your symptoms. If you’re not sure how to use your inhaler - or want a refresher - our Banner Health respiratory therapists can help.

They can walk you through:

  • Proper inhaler techniques
  • When and how to use your controller or rescue inhaler
  • Questions about medication side effects or timing

Don’t hesitate to ask for help. Even small adjustments can make a big difference in your asthma control.

Classes and support groups for asthma

You’re not alone in managing asthma. Many people - both adults and children - share your questions and challenges. Asthma education classes and support groups offer a space to learn from experts and connect with others who understand what you’re going through.

Check with your local Banner facility or view our upcoming class offerings to see what’s available near you.

What kind of doctor should I see for asthma?

If you think you might have asthma or your symptoms are getting worse, start with your primary care provider. They can:

  • Evaluate your symptoms
  • Perform or order lung function tests
  • Start a treatment plan for mild to moderate asthma

For more complex or allergic asthma, your doctor may refer you to a specialist, such as:

  • Allergist – If you have allergic triggers or seasonal symptoms
  • Pulmonologist – If your asthma is severe or difficult to control
  • Allergist-immunologist – For more advanced allergy and immune-related care
