Inpatient Behavioral Health Assessment

Life can feel overwhelming at times. Events such as job loss, divorce, or the death of a loved one can affect your mental and emotional well-being. Sometimes, there’s no clear reason for feeling down or anxious  -  and that’s completely normal. At Banner Health, we’re here to help you understand what’s going on and guide you toward the right level of care.

What is an inpatient behavioral health assessment?

An inpatient assessment is the first step in getting help for behavioral or mental health concerns. This evaluation helps determine whether inpatient care, outpatient treatment or community-based support services are best suited to your needs.

During your assessment, your provider will:

  • Conduct a limited physical exam
  • Discuss your symptoms, behaviors and medical history
  • Use mental health screening tools and questionnaires to better understand your condition

This process helps your care team create a personalized plan to support your mental health and well-being.

Where to receive an inpatient assessment

You can receive inpatient behavioral health care at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital in Scottsdale, Arizona. Our facility offers dedicated programs for both adults and teens. We provide care for a range of needs, including:

  • Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder
  • Dual diagnosis (mental health and substance use disorders)
  • Medical detoxification for alcohol and psychoactive drugs

If you’re unsure whether inpatient treatment is right for you, you can start with a free, confidential phone assessment. Call the Phoenix Valley Help Line at 480-448-7511 to speak with a member of our care team.

What happens after an inpatient assessment?

After your evaluation, your provider will review your results and discuss the best next steps. You may be:

  • Admitted for inpatient psychiatric care
  • Referred to outpatient therapy or community resources
  • Connected with your primary care provider for continued support

At Banner Health, we believe in a comprehensive and collaborative approach to care. When inpatient treatment is recommended, we coordinate closely with your doctor and care team to ensure smooth transitions between services.

If you’re admitted for inpatient care, you may continue with outpatient services after your hospital stay to support your long-term recovery. Learn more about what to expect during inpatient behavioral health care at Banner.
