Who needs hospice care? 

Hospice is a special health care option for people with life-limiting or terminal illnesses who want to focus on comfort and quality of life rather than curative treatment. 

Hospice care may be right for those who: 

• Have a life-limiting or terminal illness 
• No longer seek or respond to aggressive medical treatment 
• Need help with pain and symptom management 
• Want to spend time at home surrounded by loved ones 

Our goal is to keep you comfortable and supported in the place you feel most at peace. Every care plan is individualized to meet the needs of both patients and families.

Hospice care focuses on the whole person - body, mind and spirit. Our interdisciplinary team includes doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, home health aides and trained volunteers who provide:

24-hour hospice care 

When you or your loved one needs care, we’re here. The Banner Health Hospice Care Team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide mindful care and comfort whenever you need it most. 

Palliative care vs. hospice care 

Palliative and hospice care both focus on improving comfort and quality of life, but they differ in timing and scope: 

• Palliative care can begin at any stage of illness and may be provided alongside curative treatment. 
• Hospice care is a type of palliative care provided when treatment is no longer effective or desired and the focus is entirely on comfort.

Who pays for hospice care? 

Most hospice services are covered by insurance, including: 

Medicare Hospice Benefit 

• Coverage for the full hospice team and their services 
• Medications and medical equipment related to the terminal illness 
• All levels of hospice care: routine, respite, inpatient and continuous care 

Private insurance 

Many private insurance plans include hospice coverage. If you’re unsure of your benefits, please contact our office at 970-397-2451. Our staff can help you understand your options.
