Concussion Treatment Care

At Banner Health, you’ll have a dedicated team of specialists by your side to guide you through the healing process. Using advanced technology and proven therapies, our experts focus on more than just managing symptoms. We work to treat the problems that result from a concussion so you can safely return to school, work or play.

How is a concussion treated?

Every concussion is unique, and recovery looks different for each person. After a thorough evaluation, your doctor may recommend one or more of the following services:

  • Vestibular and balance therapy to reduce dizziness and improve coordination
  • Neuro-optometry to assess vision changes linked to a concussion
  • Occupational therapy to improve daily function when vision or focus is affected
  • Neuropsychology services to address changes in memory, thinking, mood and behavior
  • Sports psychology to support mental performance and confidence when returning to sports, school or work
  • Sports nutrition counseling to encourage healthy eating habits that promote brain recovery
  • Athletic training services to safely guide your return-to-play activities

Along with these therapies, lifestyle choices can make a big difference. Getting enough sleep, staying hydrated and eating a balanced diet all help support brain healing. Your Banner Health care team will tailor recommendations to your needs and goals.

How long does it take to recover from a concussion?

Recovery times vary. Most people heal within 7 to 21 days when following their doctor’s recommendations. However, recovery may take longer if symptoms are severe or if additional injuries are present.

If you notice that your symptoms continue or worsen, it’s important to contact your doctor right away. Early and consistent care improves your chances of a full recovery.
