What Are the Burn Center Visitor Guidelines?

At Banner Health, we understand how important it is to stay connected with loved ones during a hospital stay. You are welcome to visit friends or family members receiving care in the burn center.

However, because burn patients are especially vulnerable to infection and temperature changes, we follow strict visitor guidelines to support a safe, healing environment.

Please review and follow the rules below, as well as any instructions provided by the burn unit staff or the patient’s care team.

Visitor guidelines for the burn unit

To help protect our patients:

  • Limit visitors to two people at a time. You must receive permission from the nurse before entering.
  • Wear protective gear. This includes a gown, cap, mask and gloves. You must also wash your hands with disinfectant soap before entering and after leaving the room.
  • No flowers, plants or plush toys are allowed in the burn unit - whether real, dried or artificial. These items can carry bacteria and allergens.
  • Please keep noise to a minimum. A calm environment helps promote healing.
  • Do not adjust the room temperature. Burn patient rooms are kept at 76°F (or higher) to help regulate body temperature and aid recovery.
  • Visitation may be paused at various times. You may be asked to leave temporarily during:
    • Wound care or dressing changes
    • Patient rest periods
    • Transport to and from the hydrotherapy room

These guidelines may change based on a patient’s condition or unexpected care needs.

Thank you for supporting a healing environment

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to provide the safest and most supportive care for our burn patients. If you have questions during your visit, please don’t hesitate to ask a member of our care team.
