The BIG Pink Bus

Early breast cancer detection

Mammograms are the only screening test proven to lower breast cancer deaths through early detection. Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network recommend that women begin annual screening mammograms at age 40 for those at average risk (age 35 for those with family history of breast cancer).

The BIG Pink Bus

Banner MD Anderson’s The BIG Pink Bus* is a mobile mammography unit that provides early breast cancer detection services to women across the greater Phoenix area of Arizona. Our goal is to increase access to these important preventive breast screenings, especially for women who may face barriers to care. By improving accessibility, we aim to support women's health and well-being through dedicated community outreach efforts.

The BIG Pink Bus offers digital 3D mammography, featuring advanced technology and equipment identical to what’s available at our Banner MD Anderson facilities.

All mammograms performed on The BIG Pink Bus are reviewed by Banner MD Anderson radiologists who specialize in breast imaging. If abnormal findings are detected, follow-up care is available through our nationally recognized breast cancer program, which includes experts in:

  • Breast cancer and reconstructive surgery
  • Medical oncology
  • Radiation oncology
  • Genetics

This mobile mammography unit is available for on-site employer outreach events, special community gatherings and events targeting underserved populations. By bringing these services to various locations, we strive to make a positive impact on women's health, ensuring essential cancer screenings reach those who need them most.
