Frequently Asked Questions

What is a concussion?

A concussion is a type of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). It happens when a blow to the head or body causes the brain to move quickly inside the skull. Even though concussions are called “mild,” they can still cause serious symptoms and need medical evaluation.

Do I need to be an athlete to be treated here?

No. You don’t have to get a concussion from playing sports to receive care at the Banner Concussion Center. We see patients with concussions from falls, accidents and other causes.

What are common symptoms of a concussion?

Concussion symptoms can vary, but often include:

  • Headaches or pressure in the head
  • Dizziness or balance problems
  • Trouble remembering or concentrating
  • Sensitivity to light or noise
  • Vision changes
  • Feeling tired or foggy

If symptoms don’t improve or get worse, it’s important to seek medical care.

Can I come in if my concussion happened in the past?

Yes. If you are still experiencing symptoms weeks or months after a concussion, you may benefit from treatment at our center. Depending on your insurance, you might need a referral from your primary care provider.
