COVID-19 Symptoms

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

COVID-19 symptoms may appear 2–14 days after exposure. They can range from mild to severe and may change as new variants emerge.

Common symptoms include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

Who is at higher risk?

While anyone can get COVID-19, some groups are more likely to develop severe illness:

  • Older adults
  • People with chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, lung disease or weakened immune systems

If you are at higher risk, contact your health care provider early, even if your illness feels mild. Prompt care can help prevent complications.
