COVID-19 Testing

COVID-19 testing helps you know if you are currently infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. Rapid antigen testing is available at Banner Urgent Care locations. Results are ready during your visit, so you can get answers quickly and take the right steps to protect yourself and those around you.

What is a rapid COVID-19 test?

Rapid antigen tests look for proteins on the surface of the virus. At Banner Urgent Care, these tests:

  • Provide results during your visit
  • Are quick and convenient
  • Work best within the first 5–7 days of symptoms

Because antigen tests are less sensitive than lab-based methods, false negatives can happen. If your test is negative but you still have symptoms or were recently exposed, your provider may recommend additional evaluation.

How fast will I get my COVID-19 test results?

  • Rapid antigen tests: Results are ready before you leave your urgent care visit.

Where can I get a COVID-19 test?

  • Banner Urgent Care: Rapid COVID-19 testing is available for people with symptoms or known exposure.
  • At-home tests: Widely available at pharmacies and retailers. If your results are unclear or you still feel sick, Banner Urgent Care can provide confirmatory testing and care.
  • Other options: Pharmacies, retail clinics and some public health sites may also offer testing.

Find a Banner Urgent Care near you.

Can I use an at-home COVID test?

At-home rapid tests are a convenient first step if you have symptoms or were exposed.

  • If positive: Follow CDC isolation guidance and contact your provider if you need care.
  • If negative: Stay home if you still feel sick and consider follow-up testing at Banner Urgent Care or with your provider.

Do hospitals offer COVID-19 testing?

Hospital-based testing is reserved for patients who are admitted or need emergency care.

  • For routine testing, use Banner Urgent Care, an at-home test or go to a pharmacy/retail clinic.
  • Go to the emergency room right away if you have severe symptoms such as:
    • Trouble breathing
    • Chest pain or pressure
    • Confusion
    • Difficulty staying awake

Wear a mask when seeking emergency care to help protect others.

What happens during a COVID test at Banner Urgent Care?

  1. Bring your insurance card, if you have one.
  2. Check in online or in person.
  3. A provider will review your symptoms and determine if testing is needed.
  4. A nasal swab will be collected if testing is recommended.
  5. Results will be available before you leave.

What to do after your COVID test results

If you test negative:

  • You can return to normal activities if you feel well and have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without using fever-reducing medicine.
  • If symptoms continue or worsen, stay home and follow your provider’s advice.

If you test positive:

  • Stay home until your symptoms are mild and improving, and you’ve been fever-free for at least 24 hours (without fever-reducing medicine).
  • After resuming activities, take extra precautions for at least 5 more days to reduce the chance of spreading the virus:
    • Wear a well-fitting mask in public
    • Avoid close contact with others, especially people at higher risk
    • Improve indoor ventilation and practice good hand hygiene
  • If symptoms return or worsen, stay home again and contact your provider.
